Horse lameness investigation involves finding the cause of lameness and is individually tailored for the best treatment strategy for the patient.
Besides commonly applied diagnostic techniques, such as nerve blocks, lameness examinations also include a whole body examination especially neck and back. All structure of limbs are examined including hooves, joints, ligaments, tendons, bones and musculature.
It has been found that often the main cause of lameness (e.g. fetlock joint) is only part of the story and is commonly accompanied by muscular pain or weakness that limits the strength and range of motion of the limb. This puts the whole horse off balance, hampering performance.
